Home
I saw a great sign the other day:
Dogs may look at us with their eyes, but they see us with their hearts.
Anyone who has a dog and loves it, knows how true this is. Give a dog unconditional love, care and attention and get back unconditional love and devotion. What splendid creatures they are. They give us
- A reason to nurture
- Friendship and loyalty
- Unconditional love
- Great joy and often much laughter
- Someone to talk to when we’re alone (this is not a joke; my wife and I talk to our dog Marty all the time and boy, does he listen!) This is me and Marty…

(By the way, if you don’t have a dog yet, but are thinking about getting one, this link will be very helpful to you.)
There is no animal like a dog and this, of course, imposes a special obligation on us as owners to care for them, feed then properly and exercise them. A dog without a walk is frustrated and edgy and, often, destructive. For those of you who don’t yet have a dog, please understand the commitment you’re making if you do get one. These are not objects to be discarded at will – they are a commitment for all of their lives. This dog training site is terrific for information not only on dog traing but on dog care generally.
Some of the great benefits of having a dog are:
- Taking the dog outside so he can have his bathroom break at the “bark park” or in the back yard, helps you feel responsible and useful to another living creature. The tail wagging will give you the non-stressed feelings of something good;
- Sometimes stress means no one to talk to. Well, who better than your dog? Those brooding sad eyes and big ears listening to your every word, feeling your sadness or your joy, never criticizing or arguing their point of view. Your four legged friend will meet and greet you as if you were a celebrity on the red carpet. There is no chance for feeling stressed when you feel this great;
- Love relieves so much tension. The best type is unconditional love. It multiples itself as well. Your dog doesn’t need flowers, candy or cards to understand your love. All you have to do is touch your dog’s head or tickle under his chin. You have instantly brightened their day (and yours). They of course will do anything to please you and return your love;
- There are numerous reports of the health benefits of having dogs. Your blood pressure will lower and, if you do it right, you’ll get plenty of exercise walking your dog as well.
Walking Works Wonders for Your Health
It’s well proven that walking is fantastic for you – keeps you fit and may also help you lose weight in the process. Being in the open air on a beautiful day is about as good as it gets. Walking doesn’t cost anything except a pair of shoes.
So, given walking is so good for you, what could be better? Here’s the answer (you knew it, didn’t you?): walking a dog. It’s called killing 2 birds with one stone. My wife and I are lucky enough to live a few minutes’ walk from a beautiful beach. Every morning, Marty our dog gets to walk to the beach on a lead and then, joy of joys, be let of his lead and go for it. This is great for him and also for us, because it means we’re not constantly stopping at every bush or lamppost, so we get to walk at a decent pace.
So, we get to keep fit and have a dog to watch and share the experience with. Marty has heaps of friends and little rituals with all of them (never can quite understand the attraction of one dog’s rear-end to another though!).
I hope you enjoy this site about various aspects of dogs, walking then yes, but also other important things to know and learn.
I hope your dog brings you as much joy as Marty does to us.
Don’t forget to go here if you’re looking for a dog. Dogs are living creatures who deserve our respect and attention, so it’s wise to start off choosing the right animal for you. Do not buy a large dog if you live in an apartment!
With best wishes
